Have you ever wondered where we get out electricity? Does it come from thin air? Why is fossil fuel a problem?Read more and you'll find out.

Fossil fuels can take a very long time to make, and it's very limited. Well you might think that fossil fuels are easy and fast to form. You're wrong. Fossil fuels take a very long time to form. As in millions and millions of years. You'll probably resting by then.

“ If we keep pulling death from the ground, we will reap death from the skies.”- Van Jones

What are fossil fuels? How are they made?

Fossil fuels is a natural fuel such as, coal and gas. They are the remains of the living organisms. Fossil fuels take millions of years to remake. Heat and pressure in the Earth's crust make the fossil fuels. It's the formation of decaying plants and animals that have been changed into crude oil, coal, natural gas, or heavy oils.

The 4 Types of Fossil Fuels

1. Petroleum

Petroleum, or crude oil, is the most highly used fossil fuel. It's known as "black gold." The word petroleum comes from latin words petro (meaning rock), and "leum" (meaning oil).

2. Coal

Coal is the most plentiful fossil fuel resource. 40% of the electricity worldwide is powered by coal. It only provides about 1/4 of the total energy in the world.

3. Natural Gas

Natural gas is mostly methane, but it also contains ethane, propane and butane. It's available and powerful energy source. Unlike fossil fuels, natural gas is renewable and causes less pollution. Just like other fossil fuels, natural gas is decreasing rapidly.

4. Orimulsion

Orimulsion has been called the fourth fossil fuel since the mid-1980s. It's safe to transport, produce, handle, and store Orimulsion, than the other fossil fuels. Many experts consider Orimulsion a very reasonable source of fuel for power generation. Many countries, Orimulsion is used in many power plants as a fuel for commercial boilers. Some of these countries are Denmark, Canada, Italy, Japan, China, and Lithuania.Orimulsion is very effective as well as cost-effective. Especially comparing to other fossil fuels now used for the generation of electricity.

How are fossil fuels an environmental issue?

Fossil fuels harm and pollute the Earth. Burning fossil fuels also creates smog. Air pollution is one of the main causes. The reason why fossil fuels cause so much damage is because the amount of carbon dioxide or CO2 is released when burning fossil fuels. Burning and releasing CO2 is a big contributor to the greenhouse effect and climate change. When carbon dioxide goes into our atmosphere it causes us to have less sunlight, making the planet warmer. Our atmosphere is also getting very thin. When fossil fuels are burned up, carbon dioxide isn’t the only gas released; other harmful gases such as nitrogen and sulfur oxides are also released in the air.
